Health care

Health care might technically be a provincial responsibility, but the reality is far different. Municipal taxpayers are directly billed for 40% of capital costs through the Regional Hospital District levy.

That’s a lot of money.

So adding to residents’ tax burden by funding primary care centres, as some other BC municipalities have done, should only be considered after carefully weighing all the facts.

Because saying “let’s open a municipally funded healthcare facility” sounds great, but it makes City taxpayers assume even more of the province's responsibilities and guarantees higher property taxes.
