Reconciliation

One of the most important governmental relationships the City of Courtenay has is with the K’omoks First Nation.

That’s not politically correct posturing. That’s a fact:

The KFN borders our city on two sides.

They will be the second biggest landowner in the CV when their treaty is ratified with the federal government in the next few years.

They have vested rights regarding fishing, harvesting and protection of archeological sites in this area.

They hold ownership stakes in multiple major businesses across the North Island.

It is crucial we continue to have a respectful, mutually beneficial relationship with the K’omoks.
